Format of an Action Research

I. TOPIC OR AREA OF FOCUS
   • What is the identified problem?
   • Why is there a need to study about the said problem?
This is the action/activity to be conducted in order to solve the problem situation being existed.

II. SITUATION
This is the problem situation that needs to be addressed and search for a potential solution.

III. PROBLEM
   • Objectives of the Study
The objectives of the study should be stated clearly and logically. They should be attainable, measurable and action-oriented.
   • Statement of the Problems
The statement of the problem should be written in a clear, logical and sequential way. It may also contain the research question or hypothesis which is stated in the form of an interrogative form.
   • Possible Causes
These are the lists of causes that stem to a problem situation. This may also involve the analysis on how the problem arises/exists.

IV. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE OR STUDIES
A description of what has already known about this area. The researcher has to:
   • summarize what is already known about the field. Include a summary of the basic background information on the topic gleaned from your literature review (you can include information from the book and class, but the bulk should be outside sources)
   • discuss several critical studies that have already been done in this area
   • point out why these background studies are insufficient. In other words, what question(s) do they leave unresolved that you would like to study?

V. POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
   • Brief description of the intervention or innovation.
   • Justification on why it is the best intervention or innovation for the study.

 VI. DATA COLLECTION / INTERPRETATION
   • Brief description or profile of the population involved in the research study.
   • Sampling size; how it was designed.
   • Specific technique used in selecting the samples.

 Procedures
   • Details of data collection procedure.
   • Includes a time frame for the collection of data.
   • Who will do the data collection? It includes a clear and sufficient description of the procedures you will employ and the steps to be followed in order to show the direct line of thought leading from the statement of the problem to all research-related activities you will undertake to complete your study.

 Instrumentation
   • Description of the instruments used – their contents; how they were developed and validated.
Examples: Questionnaires, Pre-test/Post-Test, Achievement Test, Periodical Test, Interview, etc.

  Statistical Analysis of the Data
   • What statistical procedure should be used in analyzing the research data and why?
   • Should be in consonance with the objectives and hypothesis of the study.

VII. FINDINGS / RESULTS
   • Presented according to the objectives of the study; preferably in topical presentation style.
   • Includes plain reading and explanation of figures in tables and graphs.
   • Presents in the text important figures of the study.

  Summary
   • Synopsis of the research objectives, hypothesis, research and methodology and findings

  Conclusions
   • Brief statements about the generalizations inferred from the results.
   • Includes the theoretical and practical implications of the findings.

VIII. RECOMMENDATIONS / ACTION PLAN
   • Includes also some recommendation for future research.
   • Includes a detailed description of the suggestions and strategic action plan based on the significance of the findings.

FORMAT of AN action Research Proposal

1.       Cover Page
This includes the proposal title, the author’s name, address, and cellphone number, the name of the institution, the names of the advisory members, and the date of submission.

2.       Abstract
The abstract is a technical description, not exceeding two pages in length, of the proposed research project. Usually written following the cover page of the proposal, the abstract serves two purposes:
·         It summarizes for the reader the basic structure of the proposal.
·         It includes the salient points discussed in the proposal.

3.       Table of Contents
·         A topic outline of the research proposal

4.       Chapters I – VI of the action research format

5.       Bibliography / References
Bibliography is the listing of all   references and other materials cited in the study, arranged in alphabetical order.

6.       Appendices
A compilation of selected documents or materials related to the study.

Figure 1 for Problem 3 in College Algebra

Violent Crime in the Philippines

Continuation of Math 1 - College Algebra

Activity in Mathematics 1 - BSCrim College Algebra

After downloading, please share the activity to your classmates.

Activity in Mathematics 0 - BSBA Basic Mathematics

These exercises should be done in two meetings during your scheduled time in Math 0.

Solve the following non-routine problems and submit to your class Mayor.
Figure 1: Problem 4
  1. Samuel went to the circus during the town fiesta. He saw 7 clowns. Some were riding on bicycles while others were on tricycles. He counted 16 wheels. How many bicycles were there? How many tricycles?
  2. A farmer makes a wire fence on a square lot of which each side is 6 meters long. If there will be a post every 2 meters, how many posts were used by the farmer? How long was the wire used in fencing the area?
  3. The teacher said to the 3 students, “I will blindfold you and place a mark on each of your foreheads. Each of you will either have a black or white mark. When I tell you to take your blindfolds off, you are to raise your hand if you see a black mark on the foreheads of either of the other applicants. Then the first one who correctly tells the color of your own mark wins the game.” All three students raised their hands at the same time. One of them however came up with the correct color of her own mark. What color is her mark, and how did she figure it out?
  4. In Figure 1, place the digits 1 to 9 in each square so that each of the diagonals adds to 26 and also the four corners add to 26. You can not repeat any digit.

Activity in Mathematics 2 - BSBA Basic Statistics

1. The following are the numbers of customers a restaurant served for lunch on 120 week-days:

50 64 55 51 60 41 71 53 63 64 46 59
66 45 61 57 65 62 58 65 55 61 50 55
53 57 58 66 53 56 64 46 59 49 64 42
47 59 62 58 63 58 59 64 45 42 53 48
78 76 48 75 72 48 59 58 65 64 57 71
45 78 74 72 64 58 48 42 47 49 53 64
66 48 44 55 77 65 67 72 42 48 65 68
64 58 59 64 57 58 66 48 42 64 58 62
47 65 49 62 55 54 53 69 58 49 57 61
59 64 55 43 44 48 64 62 60 70 75 41

Group these figures into a distribution having the classes

40 – 44, 45 – 49, 50 – 54, 55 – 59, ... , 75 – 79

2. Convert the distribution obtained in Exercise 1 into a
  • percentage distribution
  • “less than” cumulative frequency
  • “more than” cumulative percentage distribution
  • “or more” cumulative distribution beginning with “40 or more”
3. Using the distribution Exercise 1, draw a
  • Histogram
  • Bar chart
  • Frequency polygon
  • Ogive of the cumulative distribution
